Our Friends & Neighbors, We are proud to announce that beginning January 6th at 7 AM, we have been able to increase our part time staffing! This has been a long time need for our residents we serve as our call volumes continue to increase annually. Thankfully, with contractual increases from all three of our funding entities for 2025 we have finally made this a reality.

Your part time staffing is now budgeted as follows:

• 7 days a week daytime 7am-7pm & 8am to 6pm shifts for a total of (4) cross trained personnel. (This is an increase from (3) last year).
• 7 days a week night time 7pm-7am for a total of (3) cross trained personnel. (This is an increase for the first time since 1999 from (2) personnel).
• 4 Days a week M-T administrative cross trained staff 7 am to 3pm, which boosts our total daytime staff up to (6) during the historically busiest time periods for our call volumes.
• All with 24/7 supplemental coverage from your local volunteer members.

Overall call stats for 2024 compared to 2023 are as follows:

• Total for 2023: 1,488 Calls for service
• Total for 2024: 1,714 Calls for service

Overall Increase year over year call volume: 15.2%

• West Porter Township Fire Protection District Increase: 2.3%
• Mutual Aid Increase: 10.8%
• Winfield Township Increase: 13.4%
• Town of Winfield, Indiana Increase: 21.3%

For 2025 we are now only a full 5 days into the year and already on pace for another recording setting year, averaging almost 7 calls per day. While 7 calls for service in a 24 hour period is not many, the frequency in which they occur is. Over 50% of our calls for service for the first 5 days of the year have occurred within a timeline of already having another ongoing call, many times with 2-3 at the same time.

Qualifications are as follows:

MUST MEET THE STATE REQUIRED AGE REQUIREMENTS, MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND DISTRICT 1 FIREFIGHTER I/II CLASS, IF NOT CERTIFIED, MUST HAVE VALID DRIVERS LICENSE, MUST LIVE IN COVERAGE AREA. (EXCEPTIONS LIMITED).

No experience is necessary.  LOFSVFF will train for the position.
